danton eeproms sophomore album *if looks could kill* is set to be released february 3rd, the aftermath of an intense period at the controls of his purpose-built studio. the result is a record which is hybridised at its core, chere pop songs gradually intertwine with dance floor values while sprinkling risqué references in the process. a foretaste? femdom. femdom may have early nineties techno written all over it, but still manages to leave a strong eeprom aftertaste when it is all said and done.

since his 2011 debut lp *bible eyes*, psutka has been busy with various studio production projects as well as recording and touring with his side-project hiawatha. his return as egyptrixx takes the form of a multi-media collaboration with berlin-based visual artist a.n.f. just in time for this years festive celebrations, the imprint curated by merseyside edits maestro greg wilson returns with the tape-tapping talent of fingerman. real name gregg holmes, wilson first thought his fingerman pseudonym was inspired by a character from v for vendetta, the cult graphic novel by alan moore, but he was in fact so called after creating a weird stop motion video on a mobile phone about a shouting finger. thankfully his studio work is less peculiar: years of spinning techno in the mid-90s giving way more recently to an going love affair with funk, soul and disco nuggets.

crimes of the future is a new label from timothy j fairplay & scott fraser, and follows on from their night of the same name at the berkeley suite, glasgow and in plastic people, london. timothy and scott both work out of andrew weatheralls basement bunker studio on scrutton street and are part of a group of djs becoming known as the scrutton street axis. timothy is also one half of the asphodells with andrew weatherall who released their first album *ruled by passion, destroyed by lust* this year on rotters golf club.

misty conditions is a project that started off when henry collins and richard wilson met up in henrys studio a couple of years ago and jammed for a few days non-stop, enjoying the process thoroughly. the connection became so good in this period that the duo developed a fluent understanding of how each other worked, ending up as a project made across the internet, while henry was living in france and richard in la. they cross pollinated by developing what each did best, henry making and creating banks of samples and richard creating software and effects to cut up and re-sample, passing the tracks back and forth, essentially until they felt finished.

we booked dj sotofett a few months ago for a versatile party at rex club. he decided to stay in paris a bit more, to work with gilb-r in the versatile studio. and here is the result! they jammed with zombie zombie, recording the infamous bongos of cosmic neman and the modular synths and saxophone of etienne jaumet. then each of them took the parts and did a version on his own. its the beginning of a collaboration, another 12 inch is planned and already recorded... peace

one is formerly the front man of a notorious glaswegian punk band, the other a meticulously precise studio guru with creative flair way beyond the majority. as solo artists they are a formidable force, as a collective they are quite simply one of the most exciting new acts in the uk right now. refusing to rush, they spend countless hours trying ideas, searching for samples, tuning percussion and tweaking sounds. for every mia dora track that sees the light of day, there are 100 that dont. this isnt throwaway club music for the internet generation, it is soulful, thoughtful and emotive music by two producers fuelled by an intrinsic need to give life to the sounds in their heads.

mainly revolving around the axis - the group of locally-based producers who can be spotted in and out of weatheralls shoreditch studio bunker - reworkings from the likes of phil kieran, scott fraser, hardway bros, justin robertson and ivan smagghe soon came to light.
this idea lead to a broad range of styles with something for everyone. we have stopped arguing in the office about which is the best track. they all are.

decoy07 takes a deeper turn with the third act ep. miss sunshine (kms, monocline, tictactoe) has been working flawlessly in the studio for the past six years and this ep is no exception. third act is a heavy workout of riding bells and an old-school synth line which grooves its way through percussion builds and changes. intimidate is deeper and darker with a chugging groove and twisting effects growing into a more graceful melody. ground loop captures miss sunshines more ambivalent mood with a haunting groove that is perfect for those basement techno moments. markus suckut (figure, sckt)supplies the remix with his interpretation of ground loop, taking it more minimal and stripped back but maintaining the groove in his own familiar style.

after a bit of a hiatus, roots unit return with some deep house hybrids from their bulging vaults. learn to love is a melodic dub-house / techno infused big sound system warmer that comes from a studio session with former 2 lone swordsman keith tenniswood and will be familiar to those who tune into tim sweeneys beats in space show on the regular. morning sequence is a lovely early morning hypnotic slinky electronic house jam that gets under your skin and into your mind. this latter track is mutated into a heavy floor filler by mark e in full on peak time mode.

jessy lanza s debut album *pull my hair back*, co-written and co-produced with jeremy greenspan from junior boys, is a 2013 flagship for what electronic pop could sound like, stripped of bloated, behaviourist impulses that treat listeners like lab rats. it is graceful and erotic without the gratuitous close ups, icey and sensual, sweet without rotting your teeth, emotional but with enough blue glow to pull your heart strings. jessys voice flutters through the synths seductively, insistent without the over-singing and grating choruses that plague so much contemporary pop. jessy lanza has a background as a singer and skilled piano scholar, and the duo share a mutual love of collecting the old hardware synths and drum machines that grace this collection of songs. transecting r&b, house, disco and 80s studio rock, the production is immaculate, reminiscent of early junior boys, treading that fine line between cold futurism and the r&b that jessy and jeremy are infatuated with.
